Toki’s First Trip to the Snow

On Saturday we decided to take Toki up to the snow. She wasn’t to sure about all that cold white stuff on the ground at first, but after a few minutes it was the funnest stuff ever… Living in LA it’s easy to forget that mountains and snow are only an hours drive away, we’re going to have to go up there more often.

Los Angeles Sunrise

We had some crazy storms this past week, but before they hit we had some even more amazing sunrises. Here are a couple shots from the Thursday before last.

Smoke Filled Sunset

Every year around this time there seems to be a spike in wild fires. Smoke fills the sky, ash covers your house and car, the sun turns red and it gets hard to breath. Wasn’t always like this though, 12 years ago there were never any wildfires, the first big fires I can remember happened in 1996… But, as more and more people have moved to Southern California, is seems like more and more fires are started every year, kind of a shame, don’t you think?

Hoey Cruise – Costa Maya – Port #4

Our fourth and final port of call was Costa Maya, Mexico. Costa Maya was definitely an odd place, it was built out of the jungle only 6 years ago exclusively for the Cruise industry. Then, in August 2007 the whole area was completely wiped out by hurricane Dean. Our ship was only the second to dock in Costa Maya since the hurricane hit and the destruction was still very prominent. I think the most surreal part about the whole place was that while we were amid all the destruction from last year, we could see hurricane Paloma slowly moving across the horizon towards Grand Cayman, a port we had been visiting only days before…

Hoey Cruise – Belize – Port #3

Our third port of call was Belize. We were scheduled to go on a cave tubing/zip line jungle safari… But, after almost missing our ship the day before and all the stress involved with that, Lauren and I decided a “Private Island Beach Break” followed by shopping and a few drinks in Belize City sounded like a much better idea… However, my Parents and Sister did go through with our original excursion choice, and apparently it was a lot of fun, I guess we’ll have to check it out the next time we’re down in Belize…
